A look at Yarrs Flat architectural landscape plan

On Friday Bella, Gwen, Callum, Maddi, Mrs Butcher, Kirsty from DOC and myself headed to the School of Landscape Architecture to have a look at the plan for our site at Yarrs.

It was great to see the vision and we are all very excited about our first planting day now that we know what it is going to look like. We have some ideas about how we might be able to replicate the plantings at Lincoln Primary which will bring a little bit of Yarrs to us.

If you are interested in seeing the site for yourself and making a difference there is a community planting day on Saturday the 12th of September.

Well done Room 8

Great to see the myths of New Zealand taught and recreated by our children in room 8. They shared these with USB and turned them into ibooks.

I am very impressed with the quality of illustrations and detail in the retelling. Well done!

Here are some images, I will add the ibooks soon.

Our vision map

Today we brainstormed ideas to be put up on our vision map. These are things that we want to see happening at LPS. Great to get our vision map reinvigorated.

Yarrs Flat Trip

Last Thursday we had a fabulous afternoon at Yarrs Flat. This area of DOC land has been assigned to Lincoln Primary School to help restore over the next 10 years. This is a massive project funded by Fonterra supported by DOC and Te Ara Kakariki. Our first planting day will be in early September this year. Last week however was about connecting with the land and coming up with some ideas and visions about what we could do to help improve the bio-diversity and the environment so that it becomes a great place to visit, picnic and look at bird and wildlife.

Story of the Awa

Thanks Matt for an interactive informative and fun session on 'the story of the awa'. It was great looking at what happens to the beautiful, crystal clear water that starts at the river source as it travels down the awa and gets polluted or contaminated as it goes.

It definitely made us think.

Bird survey week

Today our school took part in the annual 'bird survey week'. We had a great time with Matt surveying what bird species are spending time at Lincoln Primary School. We saw some interesting birds and are looking forward to comparing this years results with last years.
